Insights from Brett Walsh — Global Human Capital Leader

What is your role and background?

Currently I am the global head of the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL) Human Capital consulting group. My prior roles included leading the EMEA Human Capital practices for 8 years and leading the HC practice in the UK. This is my second career, in my first career I was a civil and structural chartered engineer and I am married with 3 children.

Can you tell us about the Human Capital Consulting team?

Deloitte member firm HC practices have a lot of very talented people and partners. As part of the vision we are leveraging our significant partner talent across all the industry sectors and HC service lines in each of our geographical regions as part of an expanded Extended Leadership team.

What do you see as the key areas for growth?

The main growth areas for Deloitte member firm HC practices will be to continue to sustain the growth in Strategic Change and Organizational Transformation. The fastest growing practice is HR Transformation and Technology. We see enormous opportunity for us in the Talent, Performance and Reward area and Analytics is increasingly becoming a big play for us. Two of the four offerings that we will prioritize for FY13 investment will include a focus on analytics. Our Actuarial and Advanced Analytics team is at the heart of our focus on predictive modelling.

Can you tell us about the investments being made into the Deloitte member firms?

The investments that DTTL and its member firms are making in priority markets at the moment covers a number of initiatives, we are investing with the Partner Director Acquisitions Team internally to identify individual and team hires for priority markets. Also we are investing in capability building in each of our major regions to arm our practitioners with the latest method & tools.

What opportunities do you see for senior leaders joining Deloitte Human Capital Consulting?

For leaders coming into HC they will find that HC is one of the most profitable competencies within consulting with significant opportunity for further growth in the marketplace. This provides an exciting environment for senior leaders to join us to achieve personal success and to reach the most senior levels within our leadership.

Can you describe the senior leadership team?

I would describe the Executive Team and the Extended Leadership team across HC as very strong. We run conferences and training events where we build capability and are very collegiate as a team across the network. Many of us have known each other for a long time at the senior levels which means that that teaming is strong. We aspire to greater stewardship as we move forward over the next few years to involve the extended leadership team where some of the strongest leaders and young member firm partners can fulfill global roles and also appreciate the importance of global to that community.
