What can you do right now to manage your career for the future?
Below is an acronym “CONTROL” developed by the Deloitte Talent Manager, Mary Collins, on how you can do this now no matter what career path you decide to take.
Creativity: expand your mind. Have you thought about careers in new growth sectors such as e-commerce or renewable energy?
Own your career: don’t let your career happen to you. Have a 10 year career plan with key milestones.
Networking: did you know approximately 70% of all job openings are never advertised but filled through word of mouth or networking. Have you heard of “linkedin”?
Try different things: volunteering, toastmasters or pick up a new language!
Risks! take a leap out of your comfort zone
Optimism: a positive mindset is half the battle in finding the right career for you.
Lifelong learning: an investment in you. Never stop learning. What can you do now to add to
your qualifications, perhaps a evening course?
