Federal Tax

The Federal Tax team works with our clients to manage their tax liabilities and ensure that their organization complies with local, federal and international tax law and that they incorporate the tax perspective in all business objectives and decisions. We are also responsible for leading the overall tax relationship with clients and facilitating the involvement of other specialized tax service lines such as Multistate, International and Employee Benefits.

Federal Tax professionals provide compliance and tax consulting services to individuals as well as both public and private corporate clients including flow-through entities such as partnerships, S-Corps and LLCs. They perform effective diagnosis, solution development and implementation of clients' tax needs. Among others, specific areas of focus include accounting periods and methods, inventory solutions, basis studies, meals and entertainment recovery services, production activity solutions, research and development credit services, cosourcing, controversies, and strategic tax review.

Responsibilities include overseeing complex tax research projects for clients in diverse industries; participating in engagements requiring tax analysis for a variety of entities and their affiliates; and researching and analyzing a wide range of tax issues such as deferred tax liability issues and tax implications of financing techniques. Federal Tax professionals are also responsible for developing and motivating engagement staff by providing leadership, counseling and career guidance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or other business related field; advanced degree preferred
  • Previous public accounting experience or equivalent in law firms or industry
  • Big 4 experience a plus
  • Exposure to SFAS #109 / tax provision calculations a plus
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • CPA, Enrolled Agent or other appropriate certification required

Research & Development

The Research & Development group is a subgroup within our Federal Tax practice. They are focused on helping clients optimize value through federal, global and state research tax credits. The Research & Development practice is a nationally based practice supported by various levels of tax professionals and technical experts such as industrial and chemical engineers, attorneys and accountants.

Research & Development professionals will participate in client meetings with tax engagement teams, conduct technical interviews with clients, assist in presenting our services to clients, as well as research and develop materials for client meetings. These professionals will also conduct strategic planning initiatives and feasibility studies, and help clients meet documentation and filing requirements.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Accounting or other related business or technical discipline, MS in Accounting or Taxation, or JD or LLM degree highly preferred
  • CPA certification or appropriate certification in individual discipline, e.g. bar, enrolled agent exam or other proper certification
  • Previous Big 4 or other professional services experience preferred, or relevant industry experience
  • Demonstrated leadership, problem solving, and strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work on multiple assignments, and manage ambiguity
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels
  • Approximately 30-50% national travel based on client assignments

International Tax

Our International Tax practice is known as the preeminent international tax practice in the country. Our practice helps multinational clients integrate tax planning into their overall business strategy and comply with both U.S. and international regulatory requirements. We help clients understand the implications of international tax developments, minimize worldwide tax burdens on business transactions and operations, and consult with clients to make effective foreign investments.

Our practice covers a wide range of state-of-the-art areas including: global merger and acquisition techniques, tax efficient supply chain structuring, strategic deployment of intangible property, tax advantaged financing strategies and debt placement, holding company planning, foreign tax credit optimization, repatriation planning, customs and indirect tax planning, quantitative consulting, and global compliance execution. Our International Tax professionals concentrate efforts on a variety of international compliance, research, consulting and planning issues.

Due to our broad reach and significant growth, our International Tax practice has needs for tax professionals at all levels. We are looking for people with a strong federal tax background, as well as international tax experience. A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or other business related fields is preferred. Advanced degrees such as MST, JD or LLM are also desirable, but not mandatory.

Mergers & Acquisitions

We are a global leader in providing merger & acquisition and divestiture services to major corporations. Our practice is comprised of dedicated professionals who focus solely on M&A transactions, which are among the more complex activities a business can undertake.

M&A professionals provide tax consultative services to our clients regarding various aspects of domestic and global M&A transactions (such as mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, recapitalizations, IPOs, etc.). M&A professionals primarily focus on: tax/financial structuring analysis, tax due diligence, assisting our clients with tax aspects of financial modeling, commenting on various transaction documents (e.g., purchase contracts, financing documents, etc.) and assisting with post-transaction activities (e.g., follow-on tax structuring, post-merger integration, executive compensation, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • General tax experience, preferably with at least 3 years focused on transactional taxation
  • Experience with a Big 4 firm, law firm, or large corporate tax department of a multinational company is required
  • Consulting and compliance experience is needed
  • Excellent research skills and strong written and verbal communications skills required
  • Excellent project management and presentation skills required
  • Prior supervisory experience required

Transfer Pricing

Our Transfer Pricing team is a truly global and multidisciplinary team of specialists whose sole focus is to help management understand, plan for, and deal with the complex and dynamic issues surrounding transfer pricing for intercompany transactions. From planning and strategic documentation through defense, our comprehensive services can lead to tax savings that substantially reduce companies' global effective tax rate.

The Transfer Pricing Service Line consists of economists, tax specialists and attorneys who combine their skills to analyze and resolve transfer pricing and related financial issues faced by multinational corporations in planning, implementing and defending their supply chain structures.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in transfer pricing in an academic or consulting environment, having gained the technical skills and the professional qualities necessary to provide our clients with the quality service they expect
  • CPA, tax law background or BA or BS in Economics with Finance or Accounting background (Master's or Ph.D. in related field a plus)

Employee Benefits Tax

Employee Benefits Tax specialists help companies manage the regulatory risks and optimize the cost effectiveness of their domestic and global compensation and benefit programs. We help companies design and implement executive compensation, qualified retirement plan and employee benefit programs, manage complex government regulations, and evaluate the compensation and benefit aspects of corporate transactions. Also, Deloitte Tax has a vast global network of professionals to help design tax-effective compensation and equity programs reflecting the laws and tax rules in foreign countries. We conduct reviews that identify risk and compliance issues, make recommendations and direct implementation of appropriate programs. Throughout these processes, we help manage exposure in policies, procedures and controls, as well as help ensure compliance required by regulatory agencies such as the IRS and DOL.

Employee Benefits professionals will be responsible for consulting regarding qualified plan requirements, executive compensation arrangements, international income tax issues, and reporting and disclosure rules. Projects may include reviewing plan documents and summary plan descriptions for qualified plans and welfare plans, preparing government filings for qualified plans, and QDRO administration. Additional responsibilities include research and counsel for small, middle-market and Fortune 100 clients on plan administration and compliance issues, including distribution, correction, qualified domestic relations order, serious consideration, determination letter request, company stock, plan asset, merger and fiduciary issues. The incumbent will possess the professionalism necessary for the effective diagnosis, solution, and implementation of client issues. They must have proven, extensive technical expertise and have developed their reputation within this tax profession.

International Assignment Services
